Marquees have played something of a starring role in Angelina and Gordon’s relationship.

Gordon is the general manager of Baillies Marquees and the couple first met when he set one up for the joint birthday party of Angelina’s sister and daughter.

So when Gordon proposed it was only natural that they plan a gorgeous marquee wedding in the grounds of Castlehill Farm, Eaglesham.

“Gordon had done a marquee there a few years ago and he always raved about how beautiful it was,” says Angelina.

“We knew it had to be in a marquee and this was the perfect venue.”

However, due to Covid-19 the couple were forced to switch everything to October 9th.

Then, with an impending second wave they brought it forward to September, reduced numbers from 220 to 20 and switched location to their garden.

“We could think of nowhere other than the surrounding of our home which my father built when I was a child to have our special day,” says Angelina.

The new rules also meant any reception had to be in a licensed venue.

Luckily Angelina’s friend owns the Alona Hotel and helped them pull off their celebration with a week’s notice.

Although their plans kept changing Angelina stuck to their original theme, a soft airy and floaty vibe with everything in peach, gold and ivory.

She made nearly all the details herself from the floral welcome mirrors to the sweet cart and crisp wall at the hotel.

And for a bride with a clear idea of exactly how she wanted things to look it’s no surprise Angelina had her dress style set too.

“My shopping experience was so simple,” she explains. “I live and work in Bothwell and the wedding dress shop Ivory Pinks is located there.

She was sold on her fitted Nicole Milano gown at first sight and bought it the very next day.

On the morning of the wedding Angelina was up bright and early for a four-mile run with her friends!

Then Gordon surprised his bride with a Michael Bublé singing telegram while they got ready.

Their wedding party was truly a family affair with Angelina’s daughter Rumeysa and Elanisa and her cousin Maria acting as three of her bridesmaids, her son Nico was page boy and their gorgeous toy poodle Violet was their flower pup.

Angelia walked down the aisle to Bless the Broken Road, sung by her little cousin Aidan.

“It’s a very special song to me as it’s about a broken road that led me on the road I am on now and I remember listening to it at a very difficult time in my life thinking that I would never find that happiness,” the bride says.

Aidan performed all the music throughout the ceremony with the help of Rumeysa on piano and then both daughters played guitar and sang Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis during the signing of the register – “It was amazing!”

The couple opted for a personal humanist ceremony, involving their family throughout.

Gordon’s sister Agnes wrote a poem and their mums lit a candle for each of them before they lit their own unity candle.

“We did a four elements part of the ceremony where each of our parents gave us one of the four elements which we would need in our marriage and said a little line,” says Angelina.

“We put together a personal, hilarious ceremony about how we met, stories along the way and a section on three things we love about each other and one thing that drives us nuts about each other! It was good fun!”

The couple then treated their guests to drinks and canapés in the garden while they had their photos taken.

Then it was on to their reception at the Alona Hotel with a three-course meal and Aidan continuing to sing and entertain everyone.

“It was quite strange as you couldn’t have any form of dancing or anything but we made the best of it and it was just lovely to be able to get married,” says Angelina.

And looking back the bride loves how their wedding worked out.

“Having to reduce my numbers and give up on the big one showed me what the whole wedding was actually about,” she says.

“If you can take off all the sugar-coating and razzmatazz you will find the true meaning and it will be even more special.”

“What I loved about their wedding was that it was unique to them. It was in the grounds of their amazing house in Bothwell and the marquee they used was from Gordon’s company. Such a bespoke and beautiful wedding. I also loved that despite the many setbacks they had, because of Covid restrictions, they were determined to have their day, all be it scaled back.  They didn’t let the scaling back of their wedding bother them and they laughed all day and had a great time.”
