Intimate micro-wedding at Kingshouse Hotel, Glencoe

Finding a venue with stunning scenery was Vicky and Andy’s top wedding-planning priority, prompting the couple to drive round Scotland until they found their perfect spot.

Vicky and Andy first met in an indie nightclub and had been together almost 10 years when Andy popped the question on Vicky’s birthday in Cape Town.

The couple originally planned to tie the knot in April 2020 and knew they were looking for somewhere with scenery that would take your breath away.

“We decided to drive around Scotland and just find somewhere outside where we could have an outdoor ceremony with beautiful natural scenery,” remembers Vicky.

“On the day we drove through Glencoe we knew it was the perfect place but it was a stormy day so I realised there and then we would need a wet weather option.

“We came across the Kingshouse by chance.

“It was the first day of opening after a big renovation and we decided to go in for a coffee.

“We were instantly charmed by the deer wandering outside, the cosy Scottish bar and the beautiful panoramic views.”

With their venue booked they set about planning an intimate wedding for 25 of their close family and friends and Vicky got down to the fun of dress shopping.

“I started looking at 20s style embellished dresses but when it came to trying them on I just wasn’t getting a fuzzy feeling so kept looking and decided to have an open mind and try on all different styles,” she says.

Most importantly, she wanted to find The One she knew would make Andy go “wow!”

A last-minute trip to Ivory Grace’s sale with her mum and she found her gorgeous ivory tulle and lace Stephanie Allin gown.

Vicky explains, “I love it because it has such a lovely pattern and was very flattering but also wasn’t in your face, which meant I could go as big as I wanted with my accessories.”

Vicky added a sentimental touch to her bridal look, wearing a Swarovski bracelet which had been a birthday gift from Andy, which she complemented with layered moon and stars necklaces.

Studded Dune heels, and a beaut faux leather jacket hand painted by Mama Inc Studio completed her cool-bride attire.

The couple had their bridal party picked out, all ready for their April celebrations.

But when the pandemic hit they were forced to cancel their big day and postpone until September, with a scaled-back guest list – just their parents and their beloved Cocker Spaniel Indie.

“It was so tough telling [the other guests] they could no longer be part of our day,” says Vicky.

According to the bride, the ever-changing situation led to the couple keeping their plans laid back and simple.

She says, “Every time something didn’t go to plan I realised we can get through it fine and we had a perfect day in the end.”

Vicky and Andy adapted some of their details to suit the situation, including the bride opting for silk flowers.

“After our first wedding date fell through I wanted to make sure there was little to go wrong,” she says.

“I was sceptical at first that they would look good due to the bohemian style I wanted but received so many recommendations for Kate Angel our florist I had to give her a try.

“She worked with me to create something unique and I was blown away with the result.”

Having met in an indie club, it was only right for Vicky to walk down the aisle to A Minute Longer, by The Stereophonics.

“It reminds us of when we started dating,” the bride remembers.

“I was emotional but also really happy to see Andy and his reaction.

He had tears in his eyes which was so unexpected but it was lovely to know he was in a happy place.”

Vicky and Andy opted for a humanist ceremony, wanting something personal and meaningful.

The couple are, by their own admission, pretty shy so decided against writing their own vows but added parts to truly personalise their ceremony, including having their celebrant Neil Mellis read Shakespeare’s Sonnet 116 and read out three things they each loved about each other.

Vicky says, “I think everyone was pretty emotional at that point, even the celebrant was tearing up.”

And adding to the personal nature of their wedding, Vicky gifted Andy a photo album of every picture she had ever taken of him while the groom gave his Harry Potter fan bride two heartfelt Hogwarts letters, one with her maiden name to open in the morning, and the other with her married name to open after.

After the ceremony the couple enjoyed prosecco and strawberries outside with their parents and Indie before going off for some gorgeous photos, followed by dinner in the restaurant.

“It was like a normal day but we liked it as there was no pressure on us to be anywhere or check things were going to plan,” smiles Vicky.

Now that the big day is over the couple have had a chance to reflect.

Vicky says, “We’ve been together 12 years so were very much like a married couple but I think we’ve been sweeter to one another and we also feel really lucky to have got married with everything that’s going on.”

And their words of advice to other couples?

“Remember what your wedding is about and don’t stress about all the other details.”

“Glencoe is one of our favourite places. Craig and I renewed our own wedding vows there so it’s always special going back. Vicky and Andy are such a sweet couple and they just wanted something just for them with their parents which I thought was really sweet.”
