The Weaving Shed

Looking for an unconventional, industrial chic-style wedding venue? Look no further than The Weaving Shed, Old Glamis Factory, a building with roots deep in Dundee’s historic textile industry, offering fantastic natural daylight throughout and with all the aged charm of a barn style wedding but in a city location with easy access and accommodation for those travelling.

This unique venue is spread over a spacious ground floor area and can be dressed exactly as you wish – we’re thinking neon signage, festoon lighting and loads of greenery. The venue layout naturally presents as three defined spaces – the ceremony room, the reception drinks area and the wedding breakfast/dining space which also incorporates the main bar and dancefloor.

Currently accommodating up to 200 guests with room to spare the venue also features an outdoor courtyard space which can also be dressed and lends itself to street food style catering.

This premium venue looks stunning all year round but we’ve a real soft spot for Achnagairn in the winter, under a light frost or a dusting snow, with soft candlelight dancing off the walls in the ballroom. Talk about the stuff of fairytales.

Broxmouth Courtyard

New for 2022, who wouldn’t want to be one of the first couples to host their stunning wedding here? The historical courtyard has been transformed into a new space, ready to host luxurious celebrations dripping with rustic charm. The exposed brick walls and original features are the perfect backdrop for your big winter wedding. Just imagine festoon lighting, fairylights and candles twinkling away and reflecting off the exposed brick.

The bright and airy space includes a stunning ceremony chapel, a separate wedding gallery, an exclusive bar, a picturesque outdoor courtyard perfect for a firepit and toasting marshmallows, and a private bridal suite.

You’ll also find seven beautiful cottages on site with space for up to 40 guests, and more than 150 acres of private parkland, which will make a stunning backdrop for those gorgeous frosty photos.

Citation

Nestled amidst Citation’s towering columns is Glasgow’s best kept wedding secret – The Balcony. The iconic yet understated terrace overlooks the grandeur of Merchant City and its delicately lit sandstone columns make the best backdrop for fairytale-style photos. The best bit? It’s fully heated all year round so there’s no fear of catching a chill during your winter wedding here!

The rest of the luxury venue – vibrant yet rustic and steeped in history – is just as impressive. Spread over a large open plan first floor area, The Merchant Suite is warm and welcoming with exposed blonde sandstone walls that’ll give your nuptials a timeless, characterful vibe. Dress it to perfection for the ceremony – and invite up to 130 guests – then pop off to the atmospheric Taverne Bar for drinks before dancing the night away.

Cluny Castle

How do you fancy saying “I do” in your very own castle, surrounded by expansive landscaped parkland? Located in Aberdeenshire, the 15^th century Cluny Castle really does have the wow factor, from its elegant tree-lined driveway, to its sweeping lawns and towers and turrets.

The castle boasts its very own chapel, which comes complete with a private courtyard entrance to welcome your guests. You’ll love the atmospheric stained-glass windows and dark oak pews with room for 100 guests. Directly below the chapel you’ll find the Tenants’ Hall, a beautiful location for your wedding reception while more intimate weddings can be hosted in the splendid dining room and drawing room. And if you get snowed in it’s no problem. There’s room for up to 26 to stay overnight.

Cromlix

Our head of editorial Katie was lucky enough to visit Andy Murray’s famed hotel back in December and it was just magical. Arriving just as it started snowing, a welcome fire was crackling in the grate of the entrance hall and fairylights peeked out from all the Christmas garlands that adorned the grand staircase and mantlepieces.

Cromlix has its own consecrated Episcopalian chapel which comfortably seats 36 for a wee wedding and can also host non-religious ceremonies. But if your numbers are larger, the tastefully furnished drawing room seats up to 80 for a ceremony or 50 for dinner. Couples hosting wedding for 50 guests or more, or with an evening reception, take over the entire hotel on an exclusive-use basis, with meals for up to 80 being served in the restaurant. Just imagine having the run of this hotel for your winter wedding, complete with billiards room, stylish bar and luxurious suites.

Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club

Situated only 10 minutes from Edinburgh Airport and 20 minutes from the city centre, this charming and atmospheric baronial manor house is known as Edinburgh’s county retreat. And it’s easy to see why. Set with 1,000 acres of parkland, you’ll find the sumptuous four-star hotel, with views of Edinburgh Castle and the Forth bridges.

When you think of winter in Scotland the highland resort of Aviemore has to be one of the first places that springs to mind. Set in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, it’s a mecca for skiers and snow sports enthusiasts so Macdonald Aviemore Resort has got to be on your list of venues to consider for a winter wedding. With breaktaking views everywhere you look, the resort has something for every type of wedding. You can stay in one of the four different hotels within the resort or choose a woodland lodge, while there are plenty of locations for your ceremony and reception. Small religious ceremonies can be accommodated in the onsite chapel or you can say “I do” in a number of venues from small and intimate spaces to the impressive Osprey Arena which has room for up to 450 guests!
