A beautiful styled spring bridal photoshoot in Edinburgh
Think boho spring weddings and you could be forgiven for automatically envisaging rural retreats with the backdrop of some byre or country house.
But Gerlof from Geebz Photography and The Wedding Guru – Oskar teamed up again, bringing together a talented group of industry experts for this beautiful styled shoot in the heart of Edinburgh – proving you can stage a bohemian wedding anywhere.
The result is a stunning styled shoot which is also a fitting way to celebrate LGBT History Month.

Planning and humanist ceremonies
With over 600 weddings under his belt it’s fair to say wedding planner Oskar Gilchrist-Grodnicki knows a thing or two about making sure a couple’s big day is planned to perfection.
So it was no different planning a showcase photoshoot, alongside the team of industry pros.
“I was especially humbled to be working with such a loyal and dedicated team on these very creative projects where we all can allow ourselves plenty of freedom to showcase our best!” he says.
“This time wasn’t different! Not only did we put together something special, but we had a brilliant time doing it – just like we do at the weddings we all work together on!”
Oskar and the team brought together models Holly and Ellie for this beautiful same-sex shoot and they embraced every element of the brief.
But it wasn’t just the organisation Oskar focused on. As well as being a wedding planner, he is also a fully qualified and licensed humanist celebrant with Fuze Ceremonies, so who better to step into the role of celebrant in the shoot?!
“Although I can’t offer this most important part of your day as part of my wedding planning services, I am sure I can help many of you elopement planning couples to ensure your ceremony is truly special and meaningful,” he says.
“If you would like to find out more about humanist ceremonies with Fuze Ceremonies, follow their social media channels.”
Venue
The dream for this photoshoot was to have the entire day at Edinburgh’s iconic Arthur’s Seat.
However, Oskar knew he couldn’t bank on the Scottish weather so he worked with one of his wedding venues, the SkyBar of the Doubletree by Hilton Edinburgh City Centre, to ensure a gorgeous backdrop for the ceremony and drinks reception shoot.
Just imagine getting married with that uninterrupted view of Edinburgh Castle.
Then it was off up Arthur’s Seat, or at least as far as St Margaret’s Loch.
“This is where the weather cleared, and we got to enjoy true Scottish spring and the iconic city views in the distance,” says Oskar.
The fashion
Not only did Mette from Freja Designer Dressmaking supply the two beautiful, complementary outfits for the two brides, but she made them from scratch, specially for the photoshoot.
“I was delighted to be invited to take part with this amazing line-up of suppliers,” she says.
“I was told it would be a same-sex wedding, taking all the good from micro and outdoor weddings and in a beautiful setting.
“I wanted the brides to wear something which was modern and easy to wear on the hill, but which had some elements of traditional bridalwear and feminine details.
“The dress was made of beautiful guipure lace. It was soft and contemporary, the skin showing through the lace.
“I felt the sequins would add a little bit of sparkle in the sun, without looking garist.
“The trouser suit, had the traditional corset style top and illusion neckline with lace motifs on the skin and drapes on the back, again similar to a veil but in a new and contemporary way.”
Accessories
The team at Scotland Shop helped ensure the brides were both warm and chic during the shoot, with a selection of wraps, shawls, scarfs and structured jackets.
Hair and make-up
Keeping with the boho vibe, the brief for hair and make-up was natural with free flowing locks.
The team at Bryony Quate Hair and Beauty Couture delivered the two looks perfectly and they can also do hairpieces for your special day.
Oskar says, “What stuns me about working with Bryony and her team is how they manage to create an atmosphere of celebration at the point of morning hair and make-up.
“Bryony’s team is young, fun and vibrant and immediately uplifts the atmosphere in the room and deflects the nerves among the bridal party!”
Flowers
Kathrin from White House Flowers was on hand for the gorgeous blooms in this shoot. Check out those beautiful floral crowns.
She says, “When Oskar approached me to be involved in a photoshoot that celebrated the love of same-sex couples, I jumped at the chance.
“Creating two flower crowns that were the same – but different, was something I was really interested in doing.
“Providing complementary bouquets that were individual but also cohesive, one with pops of spring coral – the other more classic, was also fun.”
Photography and videography
Gerlof from Geebz Photography and Beate from BBPicture Photography were the talented photographers behind the lens, capturing these gorgeous shots.
They also caught the sheer fun of the day.
And to showcase behind the scenes footage from the shoot, Daniel from Fern Photography also leant his skills. An established photographer himself, he’s venturing out with a new string to his bow – videography!
Styling
The inspiration for the shoot was the moody, yet rich and vibrant colours of the Scottish spring.
The plan was to have an indoor ceremony and romantic outdoor wedding picnic.
Lynsay Borthwick Weddings and Events created the perfect vibe, crafting the frame for the ceremony view of the castle with ivy and roses drooping from copper, along with pillar candles in vases.
On the hill by Arthur’s Seat she then set the scene with a cute elopement picnic, complemented by moss, floral accents, carved out wooden trunks and earthy finishing touches.
And Dawn from team YSW also was on hand to help out with the set-up on the day of the shoot!
