Pretty Flamingo Weddings shoot - Featured image

An incredible boundary-pushing styled photoshoot at Netherbyres House

Styled photoshoots are no mean feat to pull off.

Co-ordinating long lists of suppliers and making sure everyone is on the same page and working towards the same look can be challenging, so it’s no wonder this stunning shoot was three months in the planning.

Photographer Ryan of Pretty Flamingo Weddings and Sarah of Netherbyres House messaged back and forth for weeks, working together to curate the perfect team of 20 like-minded suppliers they thought would be right for the shoot, and its message.

“We wanted to create content that stops the scroll, something different, awkwardly challenging, and probably looked to upset the right kind of people,” says Ryan.

The resulting shoot is a celebration of blurred boundaries, questioning the traditional roles of “bride” and “groom” and what it has meant to be on either side of the aisle.

“The fact two young, outstanding, kind, conscientious, confident and beautiful models in @_maungo and @dominic.slaney wanted to be involved, (and also help create such a shoot) was a game changer,” adds Ryan.

Models @_Maungo and @Dominic.Slaney were styled beautifully by make-up artist Caitlin Donnachie , with hair by Rainbow Room International.

The models were “married” by humanist Paul Browett of Fuze Ceremonies against the dramatic backdrop of the stairs at Netherbyres House before enjoying a real celebration, reaching out across the Grand Hall’s balconies.

We’re obsessed with all the pretty details with striking flowers and décor by Bee Wild Blooms and super cool jewellery from The Lucky Sixpence.

This cake by Ard Bakery fitted the fun-filled, playful and colourful brief perfectly!

The models kicked back in the bar before a moment of quiet reflection.

Ryan asked them each to select some books or reading materials to include in the shoot.

“Not as a gimmick,” he says. “(I went for that initially, and was wrong), but to help educate. To challenge. To stop the scroll.”
