‘I do’ diary – Amber and Keiron’s exciting Christmas engagement
Amber and Keiron first got talking on Instagram over two years before a very romantic festive proposal.
Read on to hear how they got together and find out their initial wedding plans…
Amber Hollinger and Keiron Weston’s story is a very modern love affair.
Keiron initially started following Amber on Instagram and caught her attention so she followed him back.
Fast forward a while and they got talking, realising they were both going to see The 1975 in Glasgow, and then got talking about vegan cheese of all things.
“It’s funny because although we’re both veggie we both made out like we liked vegan cheese (probably to impress one another) when in reality neither of us does,” smiles Amber.
Both busy in their own lives, they got to know each other over texts first so when it came to meeting in person, she says, “It was like I’d known him my whole life.”
“Keiron likes to mention that he fell in love with me first but it only took me until the second date to realise that he was the one,” she says.
“A couple of girls next to us in the pub we went to told us they thought we had been together for years; I feel like that was a sign.”
Soon after they got together Amber managed to move to Glasgow with work, meaning she would be closer to Keiron.
Then when lockdown hit she moved in with him and a month into lockdown discovered she was pregnant with their daughter Daisy-May. “Everything happens for a reason!” says Amber.
A very special Christmas present
Nearly a year after Daisy-May was born the couple were celebrating their wee one’s first Christmas.
“I was savouring each moment while Keiron kept saying, ‘come on, stop opening your presents so slowly,’ and I wasn’t thinking anything of it because I just thought he was excited to open his!” says Amber.
“I never thought for a minute he was going to ask me to marry him. We’ve had a super tough year with lockdown, jobs and having our daughter.”
Keiron insisted Daisy-May needed to be on her mummy’s knee for one particular present and when Amber opened it it was a babygrow with “Mummy will you marry Daddy?” on it.
“When I say I was bawling my eyes out I’m not kidding!” says Amber.
“I turned round to look at him, he’s on his knee with the box and ring and of course I say yes!”
Keiron had chosen the beautiful Chisholm Hunter diamond ring himself, opting for one that looks like a daisy, making it all the more special.
Total surprise
Amber always thought she’s know when Keiron was going to propose but admits she was shocked.
And to help them celebrate in style, her parents had stayed in a nearby hotel and surprised her by showing up on the doorstep, prompting more happy tears.
“They live an hour and a half away so seeing them on Christmas was just the cherry on top!” says Amber.
“My mum can’t keep a secret to save herself so I’m surprised she hadn’t slipped up.”
Early plans
With their engagement being so recent, the couple haven’t booked anything yet and want to give themselves time to save.
However, they love the idea of what they call a country grunge wedding.
“I love all things goth, grunge and I love country music and certain aspects of the style,” explains Amber.
“Finding a venue that fits the theme is going to be important so we chose Edinburgh where we’d like to have it, not just because it’s my hometown but because Edinburgh has more of the style we’re looking for.”
The couple are considering The Rowantree and hope to tie the knot in October 2024 but have a lot of planning to do before they make their decision.
