‘I do’ diary – Nicola and Rachel’s romantic lochside proposal
Nicola MacDonald and Rachel Ann Morning were initially friends before they started going out.
Then after years of dating Rachel proposed during a romantic weekend away.
Read all about it below and their initial wedding plans…
“We met at the gym and were initially friends and never looked back since,” says Nicola. “We have now been together for just over four years.
Rachel is a police officer and Nicola’s a nurse so with two hectic jobs finding time off together can be difficult.
On an odd weekend away together they planned to spend one night at Lodge on Loch Lomond and a few nights at Nicola’s aunt’s lodge in Kenmore.
“Rachel had big plans to propose on the beach/jetty, however the weather was horrendous and the jetty was half under the water – we can laugh about it now,” says Nicola.
“It was a complete surprise. I had no idea.”
“Looking back she was so stressed, poor soul.”
Despite the rain Nicola says the proposal was “beyond perfect.”
Rachel had made a photo album from the couple’s first picture to their most recent and at the end there was a gap for a picture with a question mark in it.
“When I looked up Rachel was down on one knee asking me to marry her,” says Nicola.
“I was in shock. I sat crying with my face covered! Of course I said ‘Yes!!’
“We spent the rest of our time away spending quality time together, celebrating and drinking plenty of Champagne – my fave.”
With wedding plans under way the couple have engagement ring shopping for Rachel at the top of their list.
And excitingly they already have their date set with their wedding booked for 2nd March 2024 at Bowfield Hotel and Country Club.
“It was actually the first venue we went to,” smiles Nicola.
“We fell in love with it and nothing else compared.”
