Micro-wedding inspiration – a styled photoshoot

Covid restrictions have shown that micro-weddings can be every bit as gorgeous as grand affairs.

Countless couples have proved that just because you have to cut the guestlist doesn’t mean you need to pare back on the styling of your big day.

In fact we’ve seen so many beautiful micro-weddings in the last few months we reckon there’ll still be a big appetite for keeping things small and intimate, even when restrictions are fully lifted.

Just look through the many gorgeous wee weddings in our Your Wedding Day section to see.

The Wedding Guru

But don’t just take it from us. Oskar Gilchrist-Grodnicki – AKA The Wedding Guru Oskar – and Gerlof of Geebz Photography put together this beautiful styled micro-wedding photoshoot – inspiration for all you couples forging ahead with intimate weddings.

“We’ve identified that many couples who were due to get married in 2020 and early 2021 still want to go ahead with their plans on a smaller scale but often don’t know where to start when they had initially planned for a large gathering,” explains Oskar.

“Therefore, we put our heads together to bring you the idea of a perfect romantic elopement or micro-wedding which we believe will blow your socks off!”

From an initial chat over a coffee Oskar and Gerlof pulled together the shoot in just nine days and they called in the help of Beate from BBPicture as a second shooter.

The venue

Finding your perfect location for a beaut Scottish micro-wedding or elopement can be tougher than it sounds, given the huge variety to choose from.

But Oskar and Gerlof knew they wanted to showcase the stunning scenery surrounding the estate of Glencorse and shot the majority in the privately owned Glencorse Old Kirk.

The eagle-eyed among you will know this gorgeous 17th century church was the film set for the wedding in the first season of Outlander.

Well, if it’s good enough for Jamie!

Styling and flowers

The team took the autumnal Scottish countryside for their inspiration and wanted to capture the intimacy of an elopement or micro-wedding.

Lynsay from Lynsay Borthwick Wedding and Events dressed the beautiful ceremony arch with fern, pondweed and autumnal florals.

She then lit pillar candles and added finishing touches with earthy moss and wood for the romantic ceremony.

And she doubled up as the shoot’s bride!

Oskar says, “Her creative flare and enthusiasm allowed us to capture our photoshoot perfectly against a stunning backdrop.”

The autumnal theme was carried through to the gorgeous bridal bouquet and buttonhole, created by Kathrin at White House Flowers.

Both contained peach avalanche and black bacarra roses, asparagus fern, orange euphorbia, vintage lisianthus and eucalyptus gunni.

“Kathrin simply never fails to impress me!” says Oskar. “I would highly recommend her to all those couples who look for something truly special.”

The wedding dress and kilt outfit

Model Lynsay looked every inch the beautiful bride in her stunning lace Victoria Kay gown and cathedral length veil from Crystal Bows Bridal Boutique.

Liz from the boutique even lent the team the feather bolero from her own daughter’s wedding, making the perfect accessory for the autumnal shoot.

Keeping with the seasonal look, “groom” Joel was expertly kitted out by 8 Yards in the suave Hebridean Kilt modern tartan with complementary tweed waistcoat and jacket, copper-coloured brogues and sporran.

What’s more, 8 Yards can complete their outfits with a matching tartan face mask.

The ceremony

To ensure all current restrictions were met at the time of shooting, Oskar and Gerlof turned to celebrant Mo Ackroyd from Fuze Ceremonies.

“Mo is up to date with all the latest regulations and was able to instruct us on appropriate distancing for all the photography,” says Oskar.

“She also came up with some fantastic symbolic gestures including drinking from the quaich, hand fasting and the official exchange of rings.

“She emanates a caring approach with all of her couples and an out-of-the-box approach to performing ceremonies that are personalised and fun.”
