Wedding countdown: what you need to plan when
You’re engaged! So congratulations from YSW!
When you’ve finished popping the champagne and celebrating, you’ll need to get your head round everything you need to organise to make your big day happen.
Here’s our handy guide to give you an idea of a timeline to stick to.
1. Let’s get started
- Set your budget
- Check out potential venues on Your Scottish Wedding and visit your shortlist venues
- Choose your best man/men, groomsmen and bridesmaids
- Make your guest list
- Buy wedding insurance
- Decide what type of ceremony you both want
2. One year to go
- Book your venue
- Book your photographer
- Book your videographer
- Start the search for your wedding dress, ‘maids dresses and groom and groomsmen’s outfits
- Research caterers if you need one
- Book your band, DJ, ceremony music and drinks reception entertainment
- Book hair and make-up trials
3. 6-9 months to go
- Finetune your décor ideas – do you need to hire a professional to bring it together?
- Book your florist
- Send your Save the Dates
- Order wedding cake
- Buy your wedding rings
- Book your honeymoon
- Organise your dress fittings
- Book transport for the wedding party and guests if necessary
- Book accommodation for wedding party if necessary
- Register for wedding gift list
4. 1-3 months to go
- Finalise table plan
- Enjoy your hen and stag dos!
- Submit Marriage Notice (M10) forms no later than 29 days before the wedding date
- Buy gifts for your wedding party
- Post invitations
- Menu tasting
5. last week to go
- Collect your Marriage Schedule
- Pack for your honeymoon
- Decorate your venue the day before if possible
- Print name cards, seating plans and menus
and finally…..
After the big day you still have some wedmin to do…
- Return your Marriage Schedule with three days
- Get your dress dry cleaned
- Select images for your wedding album
- Send thank you cards
