Why you need to hire a wedding videographer

Back in the day wedding videography was all too often seen as the preserve of couples with the fanciest weddings, and with priorities including venues and caterers it could easily fall off your wedding wish-list altogether.

More recently though, the ability to watch your big day back has come to be seen as something everyone should at least consider.

Here at Your Scottish Wedding we love watching through the highlights videos and getting a real sense of someone’s wedding.

Now, in the times of Covid, with reduced guest lists the wedding video has become even more important, so others can share in your celebration.

So why should you make a wedding video one of your top priorities?

“Put simply, so they (and their family, friends and future generations) can see AND hear their wedding day,” says James Strange from Strangeworx Wedding Films.

“If you found your grandparents’ wedding video in a loft somewhere would you throw it away or would you keep it, watch it, preserve it for future?”

And Matt Crofts from Next Scene Wedding Films agrees.

“Hiring a professional wedding videographer is very important as we create wedding films so you can re-watch your day forever,” he explains.

“We unobtrusively film moments of your day you may miss, friends’ and family reactions and the all-important aspects, including the tiny details.”

Matt now loves watching his own wedding film back with his two-year-old son, showing him the day his mummy and daddy got married.

“It’s also a great way to send your films to friends and family who can’t make the day,” he adds.

“When I got married five years ago, my granddad couldn’t make it, so I got all our guests to turn and wave to the camera during the speeches and he enjoyed watching this and the rest of the film.”

What options are available?

If you’re still not sold on the idea of starring in your own feature-length film all day you can ask your videographer to talk you through various options.

“We have five different packages at Next Scene Films, ranging from ceremony-only to full-day,” says Matt.

“Since the onset of the pandemic I have had a lot of couples wanting the ceremony-only package which I created due to Covid.

“We also have several add-ons and a make your own option so you can make your wedding film truly yours.”

So whether you want the full cinematic experience of drone footage or to entertain your evening guests with a same day edit of how the wedding has been so far, there are options for every style of couple.

Plus don’t forget to ask about the possibility of live-streaming your big day.

Next Scene Films have now teamed up with Chris from Ashley Liv Photography to offer this service.

Matt says, “Live streaming is a good option for those wanting to show their ceremony live to friends and family who can’t make it.”

And live streaming is actually something James specialises in.

“I was fortunate enough to have already been live streaming corporate events for years prior to the pandemic, so I was able to offer live streaming right away,” he says.

I actually live streamed a wedding a few days before lockdown started last March.

“The advantage of live streaming in the current climate is obviously if you can only have [limited numbers] there in person you can have unlimited people virtually attend.”
