YSW’s highlights from Halfpenny London’s new Wonder collection
Halfpenny London’s previous collection 3 was an exploration of pared back simplicity – reflecting the times by giving her pieces that had gone before some air-time (it was mid-pandemic afterall), and releasing just three new gowns with variations of sleeves and bows.
Not so with this new collection. Introducing Wonder, designer Kate Halfpenny reminds us that the word means both “a feeling of great surprise and admiration caused by seeing or experiencing something that is strange and new” and “to ask yourself questions or express a wish to know about something.”
And believe me, you’re going to want to know all about this stunning new edit of gowns.
Whether you covet metre upon metre of satin or favour more of a figure-hugging silhouette there’s a dress for you to fall in love with.
“The initial inspiration for Wonder came from the realisation that we’ve all gone through such a lot of change, both on a personal level and in the world in
general, and so many of us are asking questions of ourselves about our future and how we want to live our lives,” says Halfpenny.
“I’ve had some seismic changes in my personal life during the development of this collection and, as a result, my sources of inspiration shifted.
“I am a naturally curious person as a stylist as well as a designer, and I’m constantly searching for that little seed of inspiration, that little bit of magic.
“I’m lucky to be surrounded by an incredible team and have worked with them to evolve this collection, playing with fabrics and construction.”
The designer took inspiration from textiles, playing with flowing Duchess satin, weighty crepes and crunchy taffeta to create the striking silhouettes.
“With Wonder, I leaned heavily into the freedom of child-like curiosity and the awe of discovery,” adds Halfpenny.
“I wish the same for my brides when they visit our boutique and find a treasure trove of beautiful garments, ready to help them express themselves and truly be the bride they want to be.”
Here are a few of our faves right now…

There’s something so luxurious about the reams and reams of sumptuous fabric here, elevating a simple slip dress

Just imagine parading through your wedding in this gorgeous outfit.
Olive dress
Worn alone without the additional sleeves the Olive dress is still pretty sensational.

The slimline figure-hugging cut is giving us serious Nicola Peltz-Beckham vibes.
Paloma dress and Zuma cape
We reckon the Zuma cape would be the perfect cover-up for a church ceremony. Simply remove for a different evening look or pair with sleeves.

Just like this…
Riri sleeves and Lana skirt
Leaving all the fun up top and stripped back sophistacation below the waist.
Riri sleeves, Dove corset and skirt
We love the contrast of textures with this look. And that corset neckline is a thing of beauty.
