YSW’s highlights of The Scottish Wedding Show

We’re just back from a busy weekend at The Scottish Wedding Show and it was soooo good!

The show at Glasgow’s SEC was back with a bang and it was so lovely to see so many happy couples and bridal parties milling around enjoying themselves and getting plenty of inspo for their big day.

We were there with our own stand and handed out over 2,000 copies of our very first Your Scottish Wedding magazine, as well as meeting plenty of excited brides and grooms-to-be.

And as well as manning the stand, the team got out on the floor to meet wedding suppliers and couples alike and see just what’s on offer for Scottish weddings in 2022 and beyond.

Here’s just some of our highlights…

Venues

Our stand was right opposite the Rad Hotel Group and we were obsessed with their dreamy and romantic décor. Just check out that airy gypsophila.

The group includes six stunning venues; Lochside Hotel, Lodges and Spa, Dalmeny Park, Royal Hotel Cumnock, The Carlton Hotel, Hetland Hotel and The Radstone Hotel, giving couples plenty of choice.

Manorview created a cool insta-worthy display (pictured below), with plenty of happy showgoers milling around. We loved this seating area and the calligraphy sessions, and the bar was packed out. Plus the tablescape was sheer opulence.

Over on the Shieldhill Castle stand the golden mini definitely caught the eye!

But this venue is more than just the gorgeous setting for your “I do’s”.

Jane from the castle also showed us their very own home-distilled gin as well as a kiltpin that’s been specially crafted to recreate the Shieldhill Castle key.

Imagine matching your accessories to your venue so perfectly.

Over on the Sonas Hotel Collection stand we got to sample a little taste of the Isle of Skye.

The collection includes Toravaig House Hotel, Duisdale House Hotel and Skeabost House Hotel.

Think Skye wedding and you could be forgiven for automatically dreaming of elopements with atmospheric backdrops, but the Sonas Collection means you can take in the magnificent surroundings while still hosting up to 120 guests at your big dream wedding.

Décor to die for

Red Events

We spoke to plenty of couples who had booked their venues but were looking for the finishing décor touches among the show stands.

We loved this romantic set-up above by Red Events.

And there were lots of elegant props to choose from over on the Perfect Table Events stand (pictured below).

Fashion

Of course you couldn’t attend a wedding fair without perusing all the latest bridal and groomswear fashion.

Alongside the catwalk shows, brides got the chance to get up close and personal with stunning dresses and speak to the boutique owners for some expert advice.

With Love Mirka (above) served up some serious boho vibes with a combination of laces and crochet.

Over at June Brides Glasgow there were the slinkiest sheath dresses, illusion necklines, layers of tulle and a vast array of accessories.

Our personal fave though had to be the chic bridal fedora.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Bridal

Over at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo Bridal Boutique stand (pictured above) there was all the sparkle a girl could wish for!

Then at Opus Couture and Opus Atelier there was a definite leaning towards beautiful beadwork and gorgeous appliqué with lots of nude undertones.

True romantics eat your heart out.

Joyce Young had something for every bride, no matter your taste. The designer teamed up with MacGregor and MacDuff on her stand with a real Scottish feel. Just look at that gorgeous flowergirl dress.

Short dresses that either a fashion-forward bride or stylish MOB could wear were also on display.

But it was the stunning square necklined ‘Milan’ dress, complete with pockets, that stole this writer’s heart.

The Rachel Scott Couture stand was a feast of British designers from Andrea Hawkes and Halfpenny London to Temperley and this stunner (top left) by Vivienne Westwood.

Did you know the Edinburgh boutique also has Rachel Scott Accessories to finish off your w-day look?

What about the guys?

It wasn’t just bridal on show this weekend. There were plenty of groomswear options and accessories to peruse.

We loved the sharp tailoring from Kilts 4 U with the complementary light waistcoats and dark suits.

To create a totally bespoke look for your wedding day, the company offers their Frank’s Gold Room, service – a unique space in which to choose every element of your outfit.

And speaking of creating an individual look, check out the detail on these dirks and sgian dubh by Ben Wynn Creations.

We reckon these would make a really special present on the morning of your wedding.

Mother’s pride

We met loads of mothers of the bride and groom at the show and there were some really special offering on display for them too.

At Mia Bella Glasgow the outfits on display were perfectly curated to tie in with the company’s signature blue.

And we reckon with all that Bridgerton blue, there would be plenty of choice for any mum attending a wedding influenced by the regency epic.

Catwalk also had lots of loveliness for the mums but it was the stunning cowl-backed dress that stole the show.

Cheers darlin’

Food and drinks trucks continue to sit high up on couples’ lists of priorities so it was no surprise the show’s Field of Dreams was packed out with various carts and trucks offering everything from alcohol to sundaes.

The Little Margarita Truck

We’ve come across The Little Margarita Truck before and we can confirm the drinks are as tasty as the van is cute!

LA Create

If bubbles are more your thing, we reckon you’ll love this cute champagne (or prosecco) cart from LA Create.

Rustic venues in need of some extra catering would be perfectly suited to 1806 Events. Just how sweet is this little house on wheels?

Cocoa and Cinnamon

Then for a sweet treat your guests can enjoy after your big day we love these favours from Cocoa and Cinnamon. All they need to do is add an egg and butter for some tasty goodness after the wedding.

Of course no wedding would be complete without cake.

There were so many stunners on the Jappacakes stand but the one that really caught our eye had to be owner (and newlywed) Laura’s own cake. Now that’s a showstopper!

Something extra

There was no shortage of extra ways to entertain your wedding guests, from selfie mirrors to photobooths.

We kept finding our way back for a listen in to the talented violinist from Capella String Quartet.

And would it even be the Scottish Wedding Show without an appearance from Eddie and Valentino from Caledonia Alpacas?

We think not.

And finally for all the kids and big kids at your wedding, we reckon this super-cute bouncy castle from Little Pastel Castles would work a treat.

Remember to adorn with cool balloons from Little Star Balloons too.
