‘I do’ diary – Lucy and Rory begin their wedding planning journey with YSW

Lucy and Rory both studied at the University of Edinburgh and met in a George Street club in early 2015.

It wasn’t until nearly a year later though that they got together.

Then after five and a half years of dating Rory popped the question in one of the couple’s special holiday spots.

Read on to hear all about their big plans…

The perfect proposal

Lucy and Rory’s engagement story is very much in keeping with the times.

They were meant to go on holiday to North Wales in September 2021 but when they both ended up getting Covid the break had to be postponed.

“We both spend a lot of time in North Wales, more so recently as we’ve not been able to go abroad,” explains Lucy.

“When we contracted Covid the holiday got pushed back to the start of October and that’s when Rory proposed.

“He had originally planned to propose on the holiday in September and so had the ring since August. He hid it in his golf bag the whole time!”

But he wasn’t keeping the secret all by himself.

Rory had actually taken Lucy’s best friend ring shopping before she moved to Australia for 18 months.

“Both of them are doctors so she’s gone to work out there in Melbourne for a bit,” says Lucy.

“Rory had to graduate early to help with the pandemic right at the start – his ceremony was online and we sat on our sofa! – and that’s when we moved in together too.

Dream setting

Not wanting a long engagement, the couple have already set the date and paid the deposit on their gorgeous wedding venue, Dunglass Estate.

“We’re getting married on 1 April 2023,” smiles Lucy.

“It’s April Fool’s Day and I’ve already thought of all the “fools in love” puns haha!”

The venue, situated between East Lothian and the Scottish Borders, recently underwent an extensive renovation and refurbishment of its events area, complete with a cool firepit area.

It’s also home to the stunning semi-ruined 15th-century gothic Dunglass Church, the beautiful setting for ceremonies.

We can’t wait to hear more of Lucy and Rory’s plans in this magical setting!
